Private House, Ipswich
A speculative dwelling in Ipswich by Wincer Kievenaar Architects Ltd. The house design expanded upon a previous permission by increasing the proposed floor area whilst reducing the impact of the overall building footprint on the site. A traditional materials palette and form was chosen to reflect and be sympathetic to the neighbouring properties. The steep pitched red plain tiled roofs, brickwork and timber weatherboarding heralds a Suffolk vernacular style of architecture. The offset double pitched roof form, grey aluminium fenestration and architectural posts and canopy details add contemporary features to the design.
The building height is kept low at one and a half storeys under two long gables, each clad in a separate material. At first floor these gables relate to four bedrooms, each with a large central window. Roof lights and large ground floor windows aid in illuminating the spaces with sunlight.
The design was commissioned by Park Properties for whom Wincer Kievenaar have had a long history of engagement. This is a speculative development project and aims to complete construction in 2016.
